dash work: Supporting the carbon-fiber dash

Replica Parts under tray

First, I will be honest.

So the dash has been a lot of work.

Also, tons of wiring keep showing up.

Then any new item creates more wire needs.

Next, I wanted more support with the under tray panel from Replica Parts.

Because that panel adds attach points for the CF dash.

However, the panel targets a standard FFR metal dash.

Therefore, this needs customizing.

Also, the panel fits earlier MKIV models.

In other words, the steering boss mount differs.

As a result, this panel sits much too high on newer MKIVs.

For example, the pic below shows about 1.75 inches of gap.

Still, I may trim this section of the panel.

Otherwise, I may create a support panel to drill and screw into.

Clearance cuts and mockups

Inertia switch and Wilwood EPB

Next, more trimming is needed for the inertia switch.

Because I need a few fingers up there to reset it.

Hopefully, that reset is never needed!

Also, the Wilwood EPB box placement needed trimming.

Besides that, this is another non-standard build item.

Still, all these cuts are pretty rough.

Then they will need massaging to get smoother.

After that, I will add trim so nobody cuts fingers.

ECU, fuse panel, and OBD

Meanwhile, I also ran the ECU wiring.

Then I mocked up the fuse panel mount.

Also, I mounted the OBD port.

Ultimately, here is a little dash and center console mockup.

Still, there is a lot to do!
