A/C troubleshooting: Why I am revisiting the A/C setup
Now that the engine runs properly, I can check systems that need it running. First I tried to vacuum the A/C from work a few months back. However, I definitely have a leak. Therefore I am deep into A/C troubleshooting. My crimps feel solid. Still, the hose adapters may be the leak. Ultimately I will find out soon.
Parts and leak-test plan
Sealant, O-rings, and adapters
- RT201B Nylog Gasket/Thread Sealant – recommendation to use this sealant from many sources, seems to be much better than the provided sealant in the kit
- Air Conditioning Compressor Seals O-Rings 270 pieces is a lot, but at least available so I can replace/upgrade any O-rings that may be damaged
- 1/4-Inch Female Flare by 1/4-Inch Male Pipe Thread Brass Adapter , this will be used to pressurize with air to test for leaks, not ideal as it will induce air/moisture, and will have to re-vacuum the system
Pressurize, listen, then sniffer or dye
One method uses compressed air or nitrogen to pressurize the system. Then I can listen for leaks. After that, if I can get refrigerant in, I can use an HVAC sniffer or UV dye. Fingers crossed!
