I was a happy camper today! my Coyote ECU FINALLY ARRIVED! Ordered April 2021, Coyote arrived October 2021, ECU delivered April 2022! Yikes! I got things unboxed and started on some simple (ha!) things tonight!
The simplest thing to start with is the mass air flow sensor installation.
You pull it from the OEM intake, and make sure you position appropriately. The MAF adapter looks like it’s a universal fit, but the screw alignment is keyed to be setup in one direction. When you place the MAF sensor its very easy to install it backward. I made sure to label the MAF collar to make sure it’s installed correctly during installation. The flat side of the sensor faces the filter. I have to say, it’s a real shame that they ship the whole intake with air filter and the only part used is the MAF sensor! I guess I’ll put those parts up for sale on eBay!
Next up was the gas pedal, it’s been a LONG time since I setup the footbox and now the pedal can finally find it’s home! I thought that this would be simple. Some trimming of the unit. Trim and flip the pedal. Then add 2 bolts, I should be done in 20 minutes, right? NOPE!
I followed the latest ‘instructions’ and quickly realized that they’re a bit lacking.
I cut off the right mount, flipped and trim the pedal – that’s pretty straight forward.
Then I attempted to install onto the mount. This is when I realized that the pedal is IMPOSSIBLE to mount from the footbox below, it conflicts with the steering shaft and the pedal box hardware – so I had to do some disassembly. In order to get to the top of the pedal box, I was thankful that I hadn’t yet riveted the footbox together. I removed the clecos, and attempted install. Nope! The mounting tabs on the left side were much too large, and even the right side webbing (shown in pic #1 above) was still too thick and needed trimmed even further. Even the steering shaft gets in the way!
As you can see above, those mounting tabs in stock form needed to be trimmed down pretty extensively. I had to remove the upper steering shaft, which meant loosening the Russ Thompson turn signal setup, and disconnecting the u-joint. Then, I could drop the pedal into the box. The provided bolts didn’t fit the mount points, so I had to dig up some 1/4-20 bolts and attach into place! Finally a gas pedal!!
