One of the requirements to build these cars is to assemble the sheetmetal. It gives the car it’s skeleton and offers some rigidity. Well, these parts don’t affix themselves so you have to drill and rivet all these parts in place. Make sure you have LOTS of 1/8″ drill bits, if you can use black oxide or cobalt bits they seem to work best for me.
As you can see I was able to drill some of the driver floor pan, the rear cockpit panel, and both sides of the trunk panels. That’s a LOT of drilling!
You wouldn’t think that several hundred holes would take a few hours, but aligning, cleco’ing, drilling, clamping, etc. It takes a while. Fortunately I got a new Dewalt drill setup when I bought the roadster – and the battery life on the XR drills is just amazing to be honest! If you want to spend more time working and less time charging, they’re well worth it!
That’s it for now!
