Now that the rear suspension is complete, the next phase is to setup the rear braking system. Nearly identical to the fronts, with a few changes. The rear calipers are top-load for brake pads which is nice, simplifies the process when you need to swap out pads, but the rears are probably 2X less likely to get changed out. There’s also the parking brake mechanism, which is a smaller mechanical brake on each rear caliper.
I laid out all the parts, mimicked the directions so it was a simple install and repeat on the other side.
The installation is pretty straightforward. You first attach the brackets that will hold both the main and parking brake calipers to the wheel spindles.
You have to mount the rotors just before you mount the calipers, you have to measure the clearances too. Fortunately, this kit is well built and just the basic # of washers/spacers were needed.
I have to say, it’s getting much cleaner on the floor now that the rear suspension and brakes are on the car! I installed a few washers on the lugs to keep things tightened up and not wobble around. I also have all the lugs installed – I figured I’ll have much nicer bruises instead of scrapes with the rounded lugs 🙂
