After an enthusiastic, energizing, mesmerizing day of installing the engine, my son and I wanted to get things torqued down. The engine mounts come from Factory Five with some spacers to best setup the engine height to the chassis. There are NO torque settings for the engine mount bolts. We searched around and found 120 ft-lbs was the number to achieve… warning, THIS IS TOO HIGH! Let me show you why…
Yep, 120 ft-lbs snapped our engine mount bolt! And in the process, my son fractured his knuckle! Fortunately, one of the local Factory Five crew had a spare set of engine mounts. The only caveat is that the alignment pin was welded wrong from factory, so some modifications had to be done. At least we didn’t have to wait for a new engine mount.
So here’s my son, broken knuckle and all, grinding the bad alignment pin, buffing the section clean, and welding the pin onto the correct position – mind blown! So we made lemonade from lemons, and so thankful for the local FFR owners to be so gracious, not only to give parts but to use his workshop too!
End result is shown here. Plus we got the starter installed as well. This time around, we torqued to 85 ft-lbs which was easier, but also less risk in breaking the bolt!
