My part finally arrived to install my flex fuel line! This is a totally new area for me, so picking the right parts was definitely a learning process! If you remember in my last post, I am going with 3/8″ supply and return lines – both will run down the passenger side outside main rail.
Picking the location for the fuel filter was challenging, I should have gone with a cannister mounted model but I have an in-line version so space can be a challenge for placement.
I ended up mounting inside the lower trunk rail. I also installed the fittings on the tank pump for supply and return.
With the tank installed and fitting aligned, I now have the first measurement to cut the braided fuel line. It’s about 2 feet from the pump to the filter. Cutting the braided line can be done several ways. AN cutting shears are highly recommended but I’m trying not to spend $60 on 6 cuts. I opted to try a fine-tooth hacksaw and taped the end up nicely to minimize fraying.
The hacksaw did ‘ok’ but I’ll try the dremel next time around. Once the end is cut, you spread the braid away from the PTFE hose. This gives the ferrule (some call it an olive) room to fit in between the braid and the hose. This gives the surface to compress the hose in between the ferrule and AN fitting
When the ferrule is installed flush, this is where the 2 parts of the AN fitting come together to fit together. Using an -6 AN wrench, tighten the fitting to within 1mm of each other.
5 more cuts and AN fittings to setup the fuel lines. Then it’s onto brakes!
