Well the day has come! After taking the chassis up to Ken Pike in Marysville, CA – he got the paint ordered and sprayed the car! Wahoo!! Simply amazing!
Just to backup a second, my initial take on this car was to be classic – yet modern, but still ‘different’ from every other cobra you see on the road. Yes, it’s not original but it’s REAL enough to drive! I wanted this 25th anniversary car to stand out in a crowd for sure! Originally I was going to go with a black car and bronze stripes, but that had already been done – I didn’t want a duplicate car, it HAD to be unique! I chose the following colors, and here are the paint codes that were used.
- Body Color: BMW San Marino Blue (B51)
- Stripe Color: Mercedes Crystal Laurite Silver (977) from the McLaren SLR 722
- Pinstripe Color: GM Cashmere (15U) – picked to match the bronze frame
Here are the initial pictures, and how it progressed after a few days:
I have to admit, seeing the bronze sprayed above made me wonder how the pinstripes would be born from this sprayout. I couldn’t get my brain to figure it out – but Ken said, “don’t worry – you’ll see soon”
Now I could see how the stripes were coming along! It’s interesting how the negative space becomes the stripe and the tape makes all the difference! Now for the WOW moment!!
Now here are the clearcoat pics, and some outdoor sunshine pics as well! OMG!
I’m just spellbound by the photos, I cannot wait to see it in person next week!!! WAHOO!!
