My son and I have talked to a ton of Cobra owners and everyone recommends the Street Rod Painter, Ken Pike! He’s about 65 miles from us, so we took a trip up to visit his shop a few weeks ago…
He has a LOT of space and his team has completed over 800 cobra roadsters, and tons of other cars as well!
We arrived at the shop and Ken’s shop manager (Arial) showed us around, tons of work going on.
Tons of different cars, and different models of Cobras! Plenty of projects going on! Ken suggested that we get the car to at least a rolling state, doesn’t need to be go-cart ready – but the engine has to be installed so the side pipes can be installed and the side holes trimmed…
The plan is to get to a roller/go-cart by May (pretty agressive) – and take the car up to Ken, leave it there for ~ 1 week, then we can go pick up the car, and he keeps the body, doors, etc to finish. Then once he’s done (about 3-4 months) we can marry the body back to the chassis again and finalize the build!
My initial thoughts are to have a metallic black with bronze stripes to color match the wheels… my feeble attempt at a photoshop below!
One of the local guys at cars and coffee has a Superformance Cobra and his paint looks pretty stinkin cool! I need to pick his brain a bit more, but I’d like a black metal flake that complements the colors/shades of the bronze as well – so it looks factory!
Overall, we were pretty impressed with Ken’s shop and attention to detail – will definitely be using him for the bodywork!
